The car was ice cold but he sat in the driver’s seat, gloves on, his hands gripping the steering wheel. Logan had never felt so frustrated in his life. A life that had primarily gone his way for most of it, minus a heartbreaking childhood. That he had no control over.

But, as an adult, he had control over every aspect of his actions. He worked hard, building his tech business and making his first million before he turned twenty-five. After all these years, he was an investor, along with his brother who joined him right out of college. He never, ever thought he’d want anything more out of the life he chose.

Yet, in a matter of weeks, it was all changing. The first time he saw Julia at the grand opening party, he wanted her. He never had trouble getting women, but he was tired of that life. When he came to Hideaway Lake at the request of Joe Russel, it was to invest in this ultimate portfolio with a man he respected above all others in his business. If he was going to invest in anything with anyone, Joe was the guy.

He didn’t expect to fall for the man’s sister.

Logan would like to believe it was the sex that drove him to keep breaking his own rules. He even tried abstaining from it. So did Julia. But, something was drawing them together and he wasn’t able to help himself. He slammed his hand against the steering wheel, disappointment at his lack of self control.

He’d have to try harder. The lights, the dancing in a small café in the middle of nowhere and the music got to him. He’d never done anything like that before with anyone.

Except Julia.

It was nice and refreshing and made him feel like she wanted him. Just him. Not for what he had or who he was. He knew she didn’t care about any of that since she was actually part owner of Joe’s company and didn’t need his money. All she did care about was her reputation and the Russel Enterprise name. She admitted it was her life and all she had ever known.

Was he the one who would show her there was more to life than working? If so, he was doing a lousy job and had to try harder. He had to stop caring so much. It wasn’t his way.

Look at this like you look at an investment! Not as anything more or you will break your own heart, stupid!

Boots crunching across the parking lot moved closer to his rental. Before Logan could get out to open the door for Julia, Dylan had done so. She gave his brother a sweet smile and put on her seat belt, avoiding looking over at him. Logan waited until Dylan closed his door and backed the car up, then turned up the hill towards the mansion.

It was relatively quiet until Dylan spoke up. “I could see myself living here, Logan. What about you?”

Logan was surprised. His brother loved city life.
